Welcome to my Blog!

I will commence my blog by saying the following; this is an academic journal, topics shall stem from books on media, class discussions and pretty much anything I find interesting and can relate with relevance to our course.

So if by some divine will you’ve stumbled upon my blog, please continue reading. But reading this only for the enjoyment of blog bouncing and you’re really looking for in-depth stories and comments on heart break, depression, raging emotional music and witty commentary on my days events then maybe you need to contact me personally since those things will not be displayed here. If you are truthfully interested in my opinions on the above, I do happen to have a lot to say. So until I can relate them to media and our society they will have to wait for a less scholarly type of blog.

Now since that has been said I can move on. Before I actually write something a little more concentrated on course content I would like to say something else. I find myself struggling to write my first post. Hence by now I should have more then just one. The humorous and ironic part is I always have something to say. I tend to be very outspoken, maybe not with the most sophisticated use of language or knowledge but I am able to make my point very clear. This is all easy in person. As soon as writing a paper or for instance a blog comes along I tend to freeze. So hopefully by stating that now in the beginning along with some added commentary as to how challenging this assignment actually is, I will loosen up and persevere through it!

Now this is me, persevering. (On a personal note I should add that I am persevering through not just my normal healthy self but with pneumonia none the less. Impressive? I think so. And oh yes, I will be in class as well. Because that is what students have to do these days to keep up with the fast pace educational nonsense we partake in.)

Even though I am about seven days behind last class, I would like to reminisce a tad. The few minutes of our class that made me think about our society all week was really just that, a discussion for six minutes of class. I would like to discuss those minutes in a little greater detail while also being very cautious of people’s feelings. I doubt I will but if I do happen to offend anyone please feel free to swear at me and write me nasty comments.

The portion where we briefly touched on gay rights in organ donation was the instance I am referring to. It was brought to my attention by a classmate that the government and Health Canada were debating on a law that would eliminate people who want to donate organs based on sexual orientation. I was outraged. What made me angrier was the fact that our chatter in class that came from it with the very heated emotional response we had was very taboo. I understand the point which was made about, and I quote “not knowing who is in the class and their beliefs.” But I believe that our debate was not sufficient. The places where we can talk about things like sex and gay rights in an academic fashion are limited. Especially to people of our age it is hard to be taken seriously about such strong issues. In the classroom though I suppose there has to be a level of order that the teacher needs to maintain. I respect our professor for doing that in a very professional way, not putting anyone down and leaving it open for discussion outside of class. My angry stems more of our educational system for not allowing classes or very controversial topics for example our gay rights discussion in most classrooms.

That may have been a little off topic. Started with a discussion from class and turned into a rant about educational institutions. The point I wanted to make by bringing up what we spoke about in class was that I read an article in the globe and mail explaining about the final decision made. They will not ban gay organ donors but as they always have will put the people who are planning on donating through the normal rigorous process to make sure no one will be infected. This is a good thing, but just the basic idea that they would really ban gay organ donors make me feel a little nauseous. It reminds me of before I was born when “No Blacks Allowed” used to be posted on restaurant doors and other locations. I do realize I am making a very extreme correlation, but one day it’s organs the next it could be restaurants.
