Internet Freedom
After reading an e-mail about the fight for open internet sent by my professor I really started to worry. In an earlier post I did mention that control of what is displayed on the internet would be a good thing for children yet I do not agree with Congress giving power to companies that will produce gatekeepers and constraints on the internet. Knowledge is power and the more people who stand up for our rights on keeping our internet free the more likely we can hold them off for longer.
If every time I clicked on a link I had to pay twenty-five cents I would not be able to afford to use the internet. Think about all the university students who use the internet for their essays and projects, then think about all the money they pay for tuition and now think about their costs for housing as well. On top of all of that imagine, just imagine if we had to pay on top of paying for internet, paying for certain sites and paying for certain information. Society would riot. The problem is not enough of us now are doing something about it. Yet surprisingly enough in the e-mail it said that in 2006 1.5 million Americans called on Congress to keep gatekeepers off our Internet and that Last year, more than a quarter-million people sent comments to the FCC and opened up cell-phone networks to user choice and innovation. Which is impressive but money buys power these days and it may not be enough to save us.
Go to the website below and do everything in your power to save the internet or we are going to have some bigger problems on our hands.
